![]() September 28, 2010 Get a competitive edge and enhance your credibility. A certificate program you can complete at your own pace, without travel or disruption to your schedule. The CHSEP Program is the product of extensive collaboration with OSHE professionals in the workplace. Professionals from across North America have participated in the Program's curriculum development process. This ensures the range of skills and knowledge provided in the CHSEP Program are effectively equipping today's OSHE practitioners with the necessary and relevant competencies they require. Also, the curriculum is not limited to a particular jurisdiction's legislative framework. Rather, it is a far-reaching collection of “best practices” as identified by OSHE professionals from a wide range of jurisdictions and legislative backgrounds. The CHSEP Program is unique among other OSHE Certificate programs in that its focus is on the essential process skills required to succeed as an OSHE practitioner in your jurisdiction, rather than just focusing on the technical aspects of the field. CHSEP participants will develop their abilities to identify, prioritize, and manage workplace risks, thereby making a significant contribution to their organization's goals. CHSEP is targeted at learners from mid-level managers to front-line workers in every industry and sector, with students in North America, Asia, Eastern Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, Arctic regions, and beyond. These students represent mining, construction, petroleum, forestry, healthcare, OSHE regulators, military, electrical and communications utilities (including nuclear facilities), transportation (road, sea, and air), federal, provincial and municipal governments, retail/wholesale operations, warehousing and distribution networks, OSHE consulting, engineering, education (primary, secondary and post-secondary), and more. Please note that this is the original CHSEP Program and it is now offered through the University of Fredericton. Don Sayers & Associates provides online support for those registered in this Program.
CHSC maintenance points are applicable to this certificate program. | Sleep Apnea My name is Debbie and I run the sleep clinic in
Red Deer called Funktional Sleep Solutions. We have 29 offices all over Alberta.
We are interested in working with occupational nurses to get the help out to
their clients.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a condition in
which breathing repeatedly starts and stops during sleep. Apneas are due to the
throat narrowing or blocking during sleep. OSA causes sleep disturbances,
daytime sleepiness, and impaired daytime work performance. 5-7 % of women and
10-15% of men have OSA.
OSA is associated with higher blood pressure, fasting
insulin(related to diabetes) and decreased HDL. Untreated apnea is related to
increased heart attack and stroke risk. Results of untreated apena are as
follows
- Decreased alertness, memory, and concentration
-Loud snoring, morning headaches, weight gain, and increased
irritability
-Increased heart attack and stroke rates
-People with untreated OSA are 3 times as likely to have a motor vehicle
accident.
-Increased self-medication and substance abuse
-Increased doctor visits, diagnostic tests, and use of hospital
services
-Increased short term disability claims.
We would like to prevent these and work with the nurses to get their
companies to do sleep testing on either new hires or continuing worker
education. We can also do compliance reports on clients that use a CPAP
machine.
Please contact me if you are interested in this our would like more
information.

bring a safeTALK workshop to your organization at a discount of 25% should you
book prior to February 1, 2012. We can deliver throughout Alberta.
For approximately $64/participant the safeTALK workshop
enables participants to: ·
Move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss, or avoid
suicide; ·
Identify people who have thoughts of suicide or may be at
risk; ·
Apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and Keep Safe) to
connect a person with suicide thoughts to suicide first aid, intervention
caregivers If you are not sure if a workshop is what your
organization currently needs, we can also work with you to deliver a shorter
presentation on suicide awareness in general. Please feel free to
get back to me with any questions on the services that we have to offer.

| Hello everyone, "This was the
best training I have ever been in; you both have a good understanding of the
needs of adult learners!!!! I liked the examples used. I took ergonomics
before and can honestly say I understand it a lot better. I like the
organization, professionalism, safe open concept of the group participation and
enjoyed all 5 days thoroughly. The snacks at breaks were a great idea. Think I
gained a bit of weight. “ Here is our 2011 WorkSMART Training Calendar:
